Context
This lot comes from smallholders in Aponte, Nariño, within the Aponte Indigenous Reserve in Tablón de Gómez. Around 200 producers across several local associations contribute to this program. Since 2017, many of these growers have been early adopters of honey processing in Colombia, refining the method through careful, small scale production.

The region’s consistently low humidity and moderate temperatures allow for slow, controlled drying. These are ideal conditions for honey processing and a key reason these coffees show such clarity and layered sweetness.

The Aponte reserve is a self-governed Indigenous territory with its own language, customs, and political structure. Only a few decades ago, the area was heavily affected by guerrilla presence and illicit crop production, making it extremely difficult to access. In recent years, the community has shifted fully back to traditional agriculture, with coffee now playing a central role in their economy and cultural identity.

This microlot is 100% Caturra, a natural mutation of Red Bourbon first identified in Brazil. Known for its productivity and resilience, it performs particularly well at Aponte’s high elevations, developing structure, sweetness, and balance in the cup.
