Context
Gitega Hills is a washing station in Nyamagabe District in southern Rwanda, close to Nyungwe Forest. Sitting between 1,700 and 1,900 masl, the area has volcanic soils, steady rainfall, and a cool climate that suits slow cherry development. Farmers in the surrounding hills deliver mainly Red Bourbon, along with some local varieties.

The station is known for its large raised bed drying setup and a consistent focus on quality. This lot comes via POMA, who work closely with producers here, offering practical support around farming, including soil health, pruning, and plant nutrition. The aim is simple. Improve quality year on year while keeping things sustainable for the farmers.

PROCESSING

For this lot, cherries are hand sorted before being dried whole on raised beds as a natural. Drying takes around 25 days, with regular turning and careful selection throughout to keep the process even and controlled. The result is a clean, fruit-driven profile with good structure.
