Context
Riakiberu Coffee Factory was established in 1994 and is part of the Kamacharia Farmers’ Cooperative Society in Murang’a. The factory serves around 1,500 smallholder farmers, most growing SL28, with smaller amounts of Batian and Ruiru 11. There are two harvests each year, with the main crop running from October to December.

Set at around 1,650 masl, the area is known for its red volcanic soils, steady rainfall, and cool temperatures. These conditions support slow cherry development and help build structure and clarity in the cup. The cooperative also plays an active role locally, offering agronomy support and guidance to farmers across the region.

This lot comes via POMA, who work closely with producers and cooperatives to improve both farming practices and processing.

PROCESSING

Cherries are handpicked and delivered to the factory, where they are sorted, pulped, and fermented before washing and grading. The parchment is then dried slowly on raised beds, with regular turning to ensure even drying and a clean final profile.
